Why is it called The Windmill Clipper? The answer is quite simple and logical. An active and progressive organization such as the Mid-America Windmill Museum needs a method to inform and communicate with its memberships. “The Windmill Clipper” is a phrase that is quick and easy to recall. The name also suggests activity. Many early newspapers, including not less than two in the immediate vicinity, used that moniker. The word “clipper” identified a sailing vessel built and rigged for speed and was, of course, dependent upon the force of the wind for effective navigation. The Board of Directors envisioned the publication to be a voice to inform, promote, and preserve the history of the American windmill to the membership and other interested observers. The publication is published quarterly with a Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall issue each year. Membership in the Kendallville Windmill Museum and Historical Society automatically includes a subscription to the newsletter.
The cover of The Windmill Clipper is a reproduction of the front cover of a Flint & Walling catalogue. Notice the banner that buoys the wind blown goddess. It is marked with a windmill on a tower made of wood and bears the inscription “Trade Mark”.
The museum library has copies of all the previous issues of The Windmill Clipper. Back issues have been indexed for easy reference. A complete set is available for reference use in the library.
